Start at the clock tower after 18:00 and walk downhill toward the old harbor. Keep to the lit lanes. If a restaurant runner blocks the path and pushes a menu, smile, say no, and keep walking. For dinner, pick a place already half full with Turkish families, not empty tables with English-only boards. After eating, take a taxi from the harbor rank with the meter on, or walk back up Hadrian’s Gate while streets are still busy.

From IST, use the official taxi desk. If the driver says the meter is broken, get out. Keep small bills. Night ride to Sultanahmet should stay on the meter. If someone grabs your bag at the curb and asks for a tip you did not offer, say no and walk to the next taxi.

Marmaris has its own vibe. It gets pretty busy in summer, but that's part of the charm. Lovely little streets, loads of places to eat by the sea and some cracking quiet bays if you head a bit further out. Personally, I love a walk along the seafront in the evening. There's just something about the place.
